“The villain of the session was undoubtedly Rep. Greg DeVries from Jefferson City,” the Montana Post recently reported as the 2019 Montana State Legislature drew to a close.
“DeVries took to the floor earlier in the session to decry aborted Native babies as genocide and had to make a weak forced apology on the floor,” the report continued. “He became much quieter for the rest of the session though he voted against nearly every single bill. It will be a pox on his district if he is re-elected.”
DeVries clearly came to his job with no intention to serve the needs of working Montanans in his district, who overwhelmingly support quality public schools, good paying jobs and a solution to health care needs. Right away, he introduced a bill to do away with compulsory education, a bill that died in committee; education is something he obviously doesn’t support. He voted against pay raises for state employees, a bipartisan bill that ultimately passed. He voted against Medicaid expansion, a program that benefits many of our neighbors in life-saving ways. He did so even after the bill was amended by the Senate and sponsored by someone in his own Republican party.
