Volunteer shortage concerns various community groups

Boulder’s Fourth of July celebration will likely be scaled back this year due to lack of volunteers, organizers told the Boulder Transition Advisory Committee April 4.

The news set off an impromptu discussion that provided anecdotal evidence of volunteerism’s decline throughout the community — a cause for concern for many committee members.

“The [July 4th] parade is going to continue, the veterans presentation will continue, but at this point I don’t think we have enough volunteers to put on all the games and so forth that generally take place [in the afternoon],” Jefferson County Events Coordinator Bruce Binkowski said to his fellow committee members.
