Marks Lumber of Clancy won one of two honorable mentions in the Montana Manufacturing Association’s annual Montana Manufacturer of the Year recognition program.

The company scored highest in environmental excellence and safety, two of the five categories the association considers when choosing companies to highlight, a press release states.

To apply for consideration, a company must: belong to the Montana Manufacturing Association or the Montana Manufacturing Extension Center; be a Montana-based, Montanan-owned business; manufacture goods, not services; and have been based in Montana for at least three years.

The association has been recognizing a Montana Manufacturer of the Year since 2013, spokesperson Alexandria Klapmeier said by email. This was the first year it awarded honorable mentions, she wrote, “because of the depth and growth of the number of applications we received this year.”

Ascent Vision Technologies of Belgrade received the other honorable mention, while Bozeman’s Simms Fishing Products got top honors.
