Boulder looks to expand, improve City Hall

The City of Boulder is looking to expand City Hall using monies from the city’s water, sewer and general budgets and the Boulder Development Fund and allowing for the future addition of a public safety building.

“I think it’s a positive move [and] something we should do,” Mayor Rusty Giulio said at the March 18 City Council meeting.

The expansion will include installing indoor restrooms with year-round outside access, erecting an outdoor stage and adding meeting room space.

Councilor Drew Dawson moved to approve engaging an architect to do a preliminary design that is amenable to the addition in the future of a building to house the fire department.

It was noted that monies from the Boulder Development Fund could not be used to fund the latter building.

Councilor Shane Maichel seconded the motion, and the item passed with a 4-0 vote.

The Jefferson Local Development Corporation is requesting proposals from interested architects.

The Mayor said he encourages the public to weigh in on what direction the expansion should take.
