The new ‘Old Gym’ takes shape in Clancy

The new Clancy Community Center, a long-planned repurposing of Clancy’s “Old Gym,” could open in early summer, pending the completion of a new floor surface and interior plumbing improvements.

At its Mar. 18 meeting, the Clancy Community Center Committee discussed possible opening dates for the building. Repairs to the roof and skylights have been completed, overhead LED lighting has been installed, and the furnace has been replaced.

The gym floor can be completed soon, but the committee has not decided what court lines – if any – should be painted below the polymer surface. Members argued that multiple court lines, for basketball, tennis, volleyball and badminton/pickleball courts, might be confusing. There was also discussion about the need to drill holes on the refinished concrete floor to hold stanchions for volleyball and tennis nets.
