Musings from the broadcast booth in Billings

Every year, I enjoy a unique and special opportunity to experience Montana’s high school post-season basketball tournaments. I broadcast and announce the Jefferson Panther games on internet radio, which I relay to the low-power FM radio stations in Jefferson County.

This really is a glorified hobby that lets me get the best seats in the house for games. But there is work — a host of technical and administrative arrangements that must be made. On the technical side, I work with an amazing team to get my voice from places like Manhattan Christian School and, last week, Metra Park in Billings, out to computers, phones and radios. Administratively, I collaborate with the staff at the Montana High School Association, school administrators, parents and various other media people. Having done this every year since 2008, I have found a unique community in high school basketball fans that deserve some recognition.
