Fairgrounds get new amenities, fresh paint

The fresh paint is one of many improvements that got a head start this year, due in part to cancellations from COVID-19. The Jefferson County Rodeo Association, however, is hosting a three-day event at the fairgrounds.

The once faded green and rusty rodeo fencing now sports fresh coats of spiffy red and light gray paint, and a three-panel information kiosk has been installed along the drive leading into the Jefferson County Fairgrounds and Recreation Park.

Those are just two of many improvements tackled over the spring and summer at the fairgrounds — a work schedule that was accelerated in part because so many events were canceled due to COVID-19, according to Jefferson County Events Coordinator Bruce Binkowski.

One event is still on this summer, however, the Jefferson County Three-Day Event — featuring barrel racing, a parade and an in-county rodeo. Visitors and participants will have a chance to check out all the changes — such as fresh paint, newly planted trees and a red roof to replace the former green one on the restrooms and designed to match the rest of the grounds. The most recent improvements are just a fraction of what has been completed over the years.
