No new dispensary for Boulder, for now

There will not be a second marijuana dispensary in Boulder — at least, for now.

Boulder’s City Council on Feb. 18 voted to defer a decision on granting a business license to Grommitt LLC, a company based in Frenchtown, for a proposed dispensary at 100 West Centennial, just off Main Street. It decided instead to hold a public hearing on the matter at its Mar.17 meeting.

But the following day, both Greg Hughes, who owns the property at 100 West Centennial — part of the former River restaurant — and Grommitt owner Glenn Broughton told The Monitor that there was no deal for a sale or lease of the space.

Hughes said that Grommitt had sought to buy or lease half of the restaurant’s former space.  “But I’m not going to do that,” he said. “I offered to sell entire building, but he flat out refused.”

Broughton essentially confirmed that account, stating that his application for a permit was now moot.

Bloom Montana has operated a dispensary on Lenore Lane in Boulder since 2020, and has sold recreational cannabis since state law changed in 2022 to allow it. A statewide moratorium bars the opening of new dispensaries — except those by entities, like Grommitt, already operating in Montana.
