Youth Leadership Program empowers local students

As part of Southwest Montana Youth Partners’ (SMYP) Youth Leadership Program, a group of 7th and 8th-grade students took on a project focused on the global goal of Peace and Justice. Through this initiative, the young leaders had the opportunity to interview three local law enforcement officers about their career journeys, the challenges they face, and advice for youth.

Deputy Sheriffs Joshua Buissereth, Amanda Morgan, and Dave Kosola, the last who serve as both deputy sheriff and coroner, graciously shared their experiences with the students. Each officer had a unique path that led them to their current roles in Jefferson County.

Deputy Kosola, who has spent his entire career serving the Boulder and Jefferson County communities, earned his degree and underwent the rigorous training required to become a police officer in Montana. Deputy Buissereth’s journey began in the Air Force, where he gained experience working in a correctional facility before transitioning to law enforcement. Deputy Morgan’s career started as a dispatcher before she decided to pursue her passion for protecting and serving the public.
