Boulder Outlaws’ 4-H club held a record-breaking animal auction at this year’s Jefferson County Fair, taking in about 70 percent more than last year.

“It was a great sale this year, so exciting,” said 4-H volunteer Andrea Sarchet. “We had a huge number of new buyers putting a lot of bids out there.”

The priciest pig went for a whopping $7,000, while the most expensive steer came in just behind at $6,750. In all, 4-H collected $65,400 in its animal auction, most of which will go to its young members. Combined with the $8,800 from auctioned-off meats and other goodies, this year’s record-breaking total came to nearly $75,000, a major jump from last year’s $43,000.
