10th Annual Fire Alarm Chili Cook-Off Oct. 15 in Jefferson City

The Jefferson City Volunteer Fire Department will host its 10th annual chili cook off on Saturday, Oct. 15 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Jefferson City fire hall.

The department will also host a variety of raffles during the event and award prizes to the best chili in three categories: beef and chicken chili; game meat chili; and vegetable chili.

Those interested in entering their chili into the contest can contact Jefferson City Fire Chief Keith Wear at (406) 916-2917.

Jefferson City fire department president Dave Cooper said the department plans to use funds raised by the event for the purchase of a 2,500-gallon, soft-sided water tank. The frameless tank, Cooper said, will come in handy in various fire fighting situations.

This flexible water tank will allow the department to get into spaces it previously couldn’t with its rigid-sided water tanks. Cooper said the soft-sided water tank is collapsible, stores easily and is “kind of like a swimming pool.”

Each meal costs $7 and includes chili, corn bread, dessert and beverages.
